If it does not show a reading it means the heating element is faulty. A professional make use of the ohmmeter to read across both terminals once more and the earth terminal on the element. Here however, a positive reading means a faulty heating element while a negative reading mean no fault with the heating element. This is not a job for the average person. If you are not well versed with electronics don't even consider experimenting.
If your washing machine does not heat the water during its wash cycle, it is likely to need some kind repair, a faulty water heater element is the most likely cause for this type of problem, here are a few checks that you can use that will indicate to you whether you have a likely faulty water heater element.
The glass section of the washing machine becomes at least warm if not hot during a hot water wash. You can feel the glass area with your hand when the procedure is going on to see if it is warm. If the glass section remains cold to your touch it definitely indicates a faulty heating element. Another sign of a faulty heating element is the non stopping wash process. Some times the washer refuses to go to the next cycle and continues the wash cycle till you stop it. This happens when the water does not acquire the pre set temperature.
Range becomes larger. While we haven't tried it, you could probably stop the switch from closing until you had 15 to 20kPa of pressure. Note,however, that the rubber diaphragm isn't designed to withstand these. Pressure levels, so there may be some long-term reliability problems. So what uses can be made of these switches?
